There is a thin line, which exists between genius and insanity. Catherine, 25, a former math student believes that she has inherited both from her famous father. She vacillates between trust and skepticism in her relationship with her father's former graduate assistant Hal. This is exacerbated by Hal's professional, yet obsessive, curiosity with his former mentor's numerous math notebooks and the potential for discovering a new proof in them. Catherine's older sister Claire, is also concerned about Catherine's need for a sane and stable environment after the death of their father and decides to sell the family home in Chicago and encourages Catherine to move to New York. The story is told through flash backs, visits from her father's ghost and the impact these have on the present. By the play's conclusion, Catherine and Hal's relationship of trust and compassion comes of age.
